NST rectification instead of filtering

I am considering rectifying the output of my NST to use DC charging of
the 'tank' capacitors. I was wondering if this would make RF filtering
unnecessary... It seems by the circuit design that backwards a
rectifier simply blocks back flow by having the same type of voltages
go to both ends, either shorting it out or just canceling it out.
Would it work?
