Jim, Anthony, I guess it would be best to run such thoriated rods outdoors. The thorium makes the gaps spark more easily. To me this seems like a disadvantage. It seems to me we'd want the sparking to be delayed until the electrodes are very close in order to reduce the electrical dwell time. I prefer to use non-thoriated tungsten rods.John
