Re: [TCML] Strike rings - to use or not to use
Hi All,
Here is my design that I came up with in 2004. It uses 3/4" UHMW PE and has
the primary machined into the the top. The black strike rail is conductive
UHMW and measures 8 Ohms from end to end, and is grounded in the center of
the rail. The acyrlic cover prevents things from falling into the primary,
yet it is fully tapable from below. The secondary is a 4.5:1 aspect 6" of
24 ga wire with a 24" toroid.

I have only had the coil in operation for first light at Cheesehead 2004.
On the trip home the secondary rubbed on something and damaged the
secondary, and I've never rebuilt. I need to get sparking again!

Hi Kurt,
That's a very nice acrylic setup! I like how you've made the disc part of
your support structure.
I also use an acrylic disc over my 4.5"diam. coils primary. It's not
pretty like yours. I simply set it down on top of the runners. Seems like
some of us are doing much of the same things these days.
Take care,
Bart
