Re: [TCML] Re: [UK] Coiling in the Media

Hi Peter, all,

I too have never figured on getting any kind of return on
my 'investment' into this hobby, besides my own personal
enjoyment ;^) If I can 'turn a buck' with it here or there,
that's icing on the cake but there's no way that I would
ever recoup even a fraction of the thousand$ of dollars
that I've spent on this hobby through the last 20 years.
As Jeff has pointed out, when you start making money
with it, then you are considered a professional and that
opens you up to a whole lot more liability, at least here
in the USA it does and I'm sure it's similar their in Austra-
lia. BTW, are there any resident attorneys on the list that
could offer a bit of courtesy legal advise on these issues ;^)?
Of course US based attorneys' advice could really only
be applicable to US based coilers. The laws are often a
little different even across state lines within the US so
maybe that idea wouldn't work too well after all. Besides,
I haven't ran across very many lawyers that are willing to
dole out FREE legal advice ;^0

A Jetsons theme Tesla coil, heh? May be intersting. I suppose
their robotic house maid Irona could have a Tesla coil tophat
terminal on her head and shoot out small lightning bolts at Astro
for peeing on the carpet (rut-roe) or shoot out bigger bolts at
would-be home intruders ;^) ?? I have seen the Jetsons but
mostly when I was growing up and I'm 45 now ;^()

Happy coiling,
David

I agree that I am not an astute businessman. I figure the day job pays the bills and have little expectation of an income from the hobby I . At present I am happy to just have the publicity. That may change...
I finished the Discovery Channel video today about the Xmas tree.
I did a storyboard with a cute 7 yo girl (daughter of one of our friends) who stole the show along with Santa. 6 hours for the whole shoot generating 65 mins of video aiming for a 3-4 min segment. Had a problem with carbon tracking and shorting on my disc (fibre - phenolic I think) This was causing sorting of the supply to mains earth. Not a good thing. I drilled it out in situ and it worked OK. There was a lot of smoke on the video after I reviewed it but no more shorting. All caught on video with the fix and interviews. They love it when things go wrong. This should screen in Canada on Discovery channel Daily planet prior to Christmas. I would be grateful for a copy on any format if anyone sees it.

On Friday, I thought I was completely out of new Tesla ideas. Then I had a bit of a Eureka moment as I do. Think Jetsons meets Tesla coil. (I've never seen the Jetsons). I am sure Discovery Canada will be all Tesla'd out so perhaps Discovery USA?

Cheers
Peter
