Subject: [TCML] DC resonant charging: has anyone tried SCR's in this design?

Hello,

I'm working on DC resonant charging unit for 20kV tank capacitors. I'm
wondering if anyone has tried high voltage SCR stack to trigger resonant
charging, i.e. delay recharging of tank capacitor until after the damp
oscillation dies out in Tesla coil primary circuit? It would be
interesting to try it for a single pulse mode or skip by number of pulses
mode while RPG is at the ideal speed.

I am working on such a design myself, though my first one is low voltage, that is exactly the same but just uses 100V and not 20KV. I am however hunting around for parts to make a 20KV system. Finding SCR's is not easy at those voltages and amp levels.

May be a good time to ask on the list if anyone has used a "cheap off the shelf" SCR which can take the high peak amps. You can buy 20KV SCR's if you can afford them!

My SCR only fires at 100hz the design would take forever to explain, but the SCR discharges the tank cap and also forms a resonante 100hz circuit which becomes a voltage doubler...
