When you say 1/2 or 1/4 wavelength, 1/2 or 1/4 of what? What would be a full
wavelength? I guess a more accurate question would be, what is the fraction
compared to?

Hi Matthew,
A single-ended TC is called a 1/4-wave because the voltage and current
distribution along the secondary closely approximates the distribution along a
long wire antenna that is 1/4 the wavelength at the operating frequency. i.e.
minimum voltage at bottom, maximum voltage at top, minimum current at top,
maximum current at bottom. the relationship is f=c/lambda, where c=300,000 km/sec.
