Subject: Plate Capacitor in parallel with Tesla Coil output

Hey All,

Here is a very simple but interesting experiment to study the corona effects
from a Tesla Coil. Make a small plate capacitor (I used 6" disks) and place
it in parallel with the output of the coil. Some striking effects can be
seen when the spark gap and plates are adjusted to varying degrees. Not all
of the effects seen with the eye could be captured with the camera...faint
white streamers 3 - 4" long appeared from the edges of the disks moving
outward. A strong static breeze can be felt a foot away from either
terminal, and the ozone seems never-ending.

A spark gap in parallel with the plates will show some variance in the
discharges depending on how far apart the plates are. In my examples below
the plates were adjusted from 6 - 12" apart.

I always thought this coil was a little boring, but this small addition
suddenly give some life to it.
