RE: Static motor 20HP for 3 phase tesla Transformerpower sourcing? more info

Hi David,
I bought the motor off ebay for $235. It's brand new. It supports 208 wye
230 and 460 delta. It is a big motor and I figure at 100uf/ hp to start the
t3 line that is 2000uf momentary plus the surge of the motor starting up!
Quite a power surge! There after it just sits there and idles. It has a high
power efficieny and a SF of 1.5. I have lots of oil run caps to play with.
As I understand it is better for phasing to oversize the Idler motor. Some
seem to add a second idler across t1,t2,t3 to clean up the phasing and sine
waves. 20 HP calcs to 15kw sans losses. Your Thoughts?
This will power a large 208 wye transformer to DC 24K volts. For Demos, I'm
building >10 KW 3 phase driven by a diesel.

Hi Jim
Are you wanting to power a three phase transformer from a single phase
source?
Or a motor. 20HP is a pretty large motor.
I do have some experience with phase converters both capacitive (static) and
rotary. I am now using an AC drive to power my lathe and would not go back
to
either of the other methods again.
If it is a motor you want to operate I maybe can help. If it is a
transformer,
I think that may be uncharted territory.
More info would be helpfull.
