Re: Main spark gap across one or both transformer legs?

Ok.... the only caps I have right now are 11x 910pF caps.... so the highest capacitance I can go is 0.01uF

If I were to use a 12000v 30ma transformer needing 0.006631uF then would it be safe using 0.01uF with pi/2* 0.006631 = 0.010416uF is that safe enough?

You are the first person to tell me about this rule.... everywhere else I have read it says resonant.

 for a 9kv 30ma transformer 11x 910pf is still low.....

EEeeaakk!! You want pi/2 x the 0.0088uF!!!

If you have a 9kV 30mA transformer and a static spark gap (pipe
tubes, bolts, etc. as opposed to a sync motor rotary gap), You need a
roughly 0.0133uF!! The extra capacitance "loads down" the NST so it
will not go over voltage.

We should probably start putting "never use" warnings on cap
charts!! I just fixed my document with a warning not to use resonant
value caps ;-)))
