Re: Resonant Frequency?

Hi Russ,
It is a simple fact that the larger your coil is, the lower the resonant frequency will be...unless you use larger wire to wind it. I think most coilers now design their coils to have about 1200 - 1500 turns on the secondary. One thing you may wish to think about is to wind an 8" coil about 32" tall, just to help prevent primary strikes. The frequency is not all that important as far as the output streamer length is concerned.

I built my first coil only a few days ago. I am attempting to build
another (them sparks sure are addicting) I was just wondering is a
higher or lower resonating frequency better. I am thinking about
making an 8" round by 24" tall secondary. but in the tesla designer
it has a very low resonant freq. im still just getting the hang of
this stuff, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Russ
