Re: 10KVA saturable reactors on eBay! (New, cheap & heavy!)

I use Primary Saturable Reactors three phase all the time at work.
Please be aware this "90" volt rating is very likely for a set of three,
with each leg isolated but with the three control windings wired in
series. The usual range is about 25 / 30 volts each.
Also, when running 3 phase power, one DC control unit is used
and while each of the three control windings end up in series,
it is usual to place a 100 ohm, 100 watt resistor across each control
winding to equalize the control.
The typical DC control current in these smaller PSR's is about 2.5 to
3 amps. The larger PSR's, say 50 or 60 kW induction heaters use
about 4 to 5 amps at 90 volts (series on the control windings).

With all the recent discussion on saturable reactors, there are six brand-new 10kVA SRs offered on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $199. These are rated 10kVA at 480 volts, 60 Hz, with a 90 VDC control winding. With a bare weight of 345 lbs, these aren't likely to be used on any "portable" Tesla coils.
