Hi: Leo
The only problem is that temperature changes, (and to a lesser extent,
atmospheric pressure change)will dictate the volume of the beach ball.
(the metal foil will get loose)
You can cover an inflatable rubber sphere with several layers of
fiberglass, and beat the dimensional change problem. But you must cover
the sphere all- at- once.
I covered one half of a 20 inch rubber sphere in the chilly morning at
about 60 degree F, and the other half in the afternoon when the
temperature was around 75 degree F. The sphere was horribly distorted.
The next sphere was covered all- at- once, and it came out nearly
perfect. Look for high quality rubber balls for the core. The wall
thickness of the relatively inexpensive Chinese made rubber balls I
found, were remarkably uniform, and the plastic of high quality allowing
a large range of diameters.
Good luck with your project: Jared Dwarshuis
