Not very well, since the 3" sparks are in a thin atmosphere of
neon/argon/etc. In regular air you might get 1/16" feeble sparks only
visible in a pitch black room.

Hey everyone, I have a small little plasma ball that you can buy
from radio shack for $60-70, and was wondering, if you break the
glass ball around it with the gas inside, will it still work?
