Hi James,
      It's not that complicated.  The diameter shrinks, but the quarter
gets thicker.  The mass doesn't change(no nuclear fission/fusion involved
here lol).

Where does the extra metal GO!

The same goes for drawing wire and rolling strip
Has any one any idea how the metallurgy works ?

Does the atomic structure change ... like carbon and diamonds ?
