With an RSG, the electrode spacing is not at critical as it is with a
static gap. Particularly if you're using a 15kV NST and the phasing has
been set correctly, the gap will fire well in advance of electrode
alignment. Still, assuming that there's no wobble, I shoot for roughly
.02" per gap at alignment, though it would probably work with several
times that. The thinking is that it should be as close as possible,
without the risk of a crash.

Just make sure that you have a properly set safety gap in parallel with
the RSG - it will save your bacon, especially when you're still setting
the phasing!
