Where are you at?
Check your local utilities for surplus. Many have
information about surplus (contacts, etc., but
probably not catalogs) on their web sites. Smaller,
rural utilities may be willing to deal with you as a
person, but it's hard to say. I own a business on the
side and have purchased pigs indirectly through my
business several times now. Most utility salvage
yards are only interested in talking to you if you
represent a business, it seems. Anyway, I've
purchased pigs from several utilities near the
Seattle, WA area. I've paid $100+tax for 15kVA units,
$150 for 25kVA units. Hourly truck rental from Home
Depot works great for moving 'em :)
Keep an eye on eBay, too. Depending on where you are,
you may luck out. For example, there's a guy in Texas
right now trying to sell 19 pigs for a total of $5k.
And they're BIG pigs. I'd be all over that if I was
down there. Then I'd open up www.getapig.com for the
rest of you all :) :)
