I have tried using a 2-terminal lamp dimmer on my mini coil, and it did,
for the most part, work. I was attempting to answer this identical
question by another poster and was all fired up to say that dimmers can
only work with resistive loads and can't possibly work with a TC load.
Although it had some peculiarities, it did work. But I'm the sort who
insists on driving the NST with the 140V that only a true Variac can
provide when cranked to "11".
