higher freq transformer/motor

I read somewhere awhile back (can't find the site) where you can take
DC, feed it thru some circuit with a transformer with a primary,
secondary, and feedback winding and a transistor and cap to get 60hz
out. Has anyone tried something like this to get, say, 250Hz and used
that for a sync spark gap (500bps)? Would the Freau number go up
(assuming you got the 60Hz-DC-250Hz conversion losses are under
control)? Or is this a totally stupid idea if spark-per-watt is the
goal? Probably still wouldn't equal a DRSSTC.
