Hi Jason,
............
You could probably benefit from a much larger toroid. I am not sure
they can be "too big".... Bigger ones seem to work much better.
The alligator clips such as:
http://hot-streamer.com/temp/JT-Bowles/~IMG_3378.JPG
Probably can't handle 500 amp currents well at all! You might try
fuse clips or something the has more contact area. That is probably
not a big problem, but is sure does not help. I can send you some
clips if you need them.
The safety gap looks great!
It looks like you have a nice MMC. Can you tell us the value of it,
or it's caps, and how many, in uF or nF? We really need to know the
capacitance as a solid "number".
The coil sounds "odd" in the movie. That might certainly be just
because it is a converted AVI file movie and all that... It seems to
sound like it is not firing right and has a "woooh - woooh" sound to
it. But that might just be the movie and not the coil.
It "should" have bigger sparks... Get a bigger toroid and definitely
a solid direct ground!! The AC line ground is worthless for a coil
like this. Just pound a few feet of any spare pipe into the wet soil.
I still wonder of one half of the NST might not be working well? Do
you know for sure if both sides are working ok?
There might be a tuning thing going on, but fix the other stuff first.
It looks very nice ;-))
Cheers,
Terry

12th; toroid connection
13th: my sweet secondary- with 30 coats of even varnish on it

16th: just a fun shot
17th: some nice arcing
18th: a very good video. Must see it.
OH, I think i know why my coil sucks. I have a homemade toroid, that
breaks out too often, and i use the MAINS GROUND. Hahahahah mains
ground silly me. OH WELL, I WANT TO KEEP USING MAINS.
Look over this vast amount of imaging and video ok??? Tell me what
you think of my monster.
:P
