Some of the various trade names that you might find stamped on capacitors or transformers containing PCB's include the following:

             Therminol
               Visconol

I've got a few pieces of old tube electronics from the 50s/60s with Therminol and Visconol capacitors in them. I suspected they might have PCBs in, but since the caps were only small and seemed to be working fine, I thought I would just leave them in place and carry on using the equipment. Should I be worried :-/
BTW- I heard from another source (vintage radio website IIRC) that Visconol is not PCB. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi Steve and Malcolm,

In my original list (compiled over the years from a variety of sources) I had a question mark after it - at least one or more source listed it as containing PCB's so I included it just to be on the safe side. I just checked a few sites today and it looks like it may or may not contain PCB's (as Malcolm mentioned in his previous post). It looks like testing would be necessary to be sure.

For example, this listing from Western Australia says it's OK:
http://www.safetyline.wa.gov.au/PageBin/elechazd0004.htm

While this listing from New Zealand says it contains PCB's:

Caveat emptor... :^)

Best regards,

Bert
