would this differential amplifier be a plugin card, or an external box?

The scope is grounded for operator safety reasons. Don't attempt to float
or use an isolation transformer with the scope. If you need to measure
between two points within a DUT and neither is referenced to ground then
you will need a differential amplifier in order to use your ground
referenced scope. For that aged scope you can probably find a cheap
differential amplifier on ebay or surplus.

Someone mentioned that I should remember the scope is grounded, I assume
that it would be, as most things in metal boxes are, but how does this
apply to it's use? (sorry if this is a dumb question)
