Terry and all else interested,
I got some scope shots of my coil running, you can see them here:
http://www.stevehv.4hv.org/DRSSTC1.htm
Allll the way at the bottom (that page is getting long!)
I found something interesting. At about half-spark length output, the
ringdown is just 1-1.5 cycles, but at full power, the ringdown is at
least 2 cycles. Maybe there is a "mismatch" from the streamers
growing. I found that changing the tuning only 1/6th of a turn caused
a 100A difference in primary current! (800A down to 700A). So perhaps
i was slightly off tune and not getting the best energy transfer due
to this. Or maybe i need to tweak my coupling some more.
I also got to run the coil without a breakout point, now that the
coupling is reasonable to deal with ;-). Very wild! but it started
to arc to the nearby flowers, so i stopped that before anyone found
out, hehe.
Have you got that streamer model figured out yet terry? ;-)
Steve
