Given it only about 27 miles higher at the equator that's spectacular for
the 1700s
Presumably they did it with a Theodolight, trig tables, some serious travel
(for the time) and paperwork.
When you think that a theodolight is not much more than a spirit level and a
protractor its even more amazing.
