Just quick thoughts...
If one winds the secondary in the opposite direction of the primary, it
will attract in the middle of the primary and repel to the sides (sort of -
maybe...). The coupling increases as it gets closer and decreases as it
gets further so it gets more power nearer the secondary. So I am thinking
that the lifter might be able to sort of self position itself above the
primary so it would not even need fishing lines type wires to hold it in
place. Of course, there are a lot of delicate if's there ;-)) But maybe...
If there is a strike rail, one could pull sheets of say Saran wrap across
the rail to act as a safety net for the lifter too. Or use real net for
that matter. You would not want the lifter to fall onto the primary coil
or it would get fried big time!! So some sort of net or safety string
should be used to prevent contact.
A lifter Tesla coil certainly would be a new and different coil!!
