Benjamin,
If you want to use 10awg pvc coated wire for a primary, you can see
my TT-42 design at:

This primary is wound onto a 3/8" thick round piece of Lexan.
6 phenolic clamp-bars hold the primary in place.
Click on spark gap coils at the site. There's also information about
synchronous gaps, a sync gap phase shifter circuit, efficiency
theories, spun toroids, vacuum tube coils with staccato control,
etc.
