Just a note,  Franceformers (in my opinion) are the best type of
transformer to unpot if you wish to salvage it.  They use E core
construction that is not welded or set up in any way to make it
difficult to take the core apart.  The core is simply strapped
together with 2 lengths of L stock.  Also, the shunts are removable.
Ive unpotted a lot of NSTs and France offer the highest "success"
rate.

Magneteks (Jefferson) have some issues with the insulation on the
coils dry rotting and they just fall apart when unpotted (at least in
my experience).  They also have the shunts built into the stamped core
(which is very hard to take apart BTW).  Transco is also an E core,
but the joints where the E core comes together is inter-leaved such
that its impossible to really take it apart.  Shunts are removable
though.
