Hi Malcolm,

Ah! I bet this is the reason for flyback transformer
bobbins being setup in this configuration. Do you
think this would work well for a small coil designed
to harness the back EMF hi voltage pulses? It should
be operating in the vicinity of 2000V to 2500V.
