Hi Steven,

As I don't have a distribution transformer I'm wondering how to get
the most out of a 10KV NST. When you say 500Vin would that be
continuous or for a couple of seconds?

Thanks

Chris R

Hi Chris,

There are three factors to consider:
1) Saturation (already discussed)
2) Delta_V between layers of winding before the insulation breaks down and shorts. Power transformers are multi-layered, with not much more than thin paper between the layers.
3) The E^2/R that the insulation can stand before it melts.
Of these, only #3 is measured in intervals as long as seconds.
