Hi Jim,

The 1.5*Cres (really 1.57*) is for static gaps (set properly) to give about 120 BPS. The LTR value also helps control the resonant rise, but a properly set safety gap should be considered mandatory. It is still possible to get too high of voltage with this LTR cap if the main and safety gaps are set too far apart.

I am using 0.011 microF for my 12K/30mA NST coil which works well. I have tried values from 0.006 microF to 0.018 microF. My current caps are 6 paralleled ceramic caps.

I have also used a 0.009 microF MMC on this coil with the Cornell-Dublier caps from GEEK Group. Also worked fine.
