     Hi Godfrey!
No, it burned about a third of the way up. It's probably repairable, but
It's time for some modifications anyway. I have been running it with a 45nF
tank cap (3 strings of 10 - .15uF) and I want to add another 30. I tried
these with the existing coil, but it tunes at 3 turns out. The surge Z is
too low in this case- The sparks are actually shorter than with the 45nH and
the spark gap quickly gets red hot. So I need to double the secondary L
anyway. I Also added another MOT so the power supply is now a full-wave
quadrupler feeding the charging reactor for +/- 10kV -at- 150-200mA at the tank
caps. 18J/bang should be much more fun <evil grin>.
Plus, I definitely need a better coating. I'm going to try the Dolph
stuff and see how that works. I have like 100 coats of polyurethane and
still get some punch-through.
