RE: sphere within a sphere

The illustration that inspired the creator of that unusual coil depicts
a Tesla coil fitted with a coronal rectifier and an outer sphere to
accumulate the DC charge. It's unclear if the distance between the
inner and outer spheres is less than the streamer length from just the
inner sphere, though to be an effective rectifier, I should think it
would have to be. I suspect the builder is unaware of this, and I don't
think the relatively small sphere-pairs recently discussed would be
effective at rectifying the output and achieving a unipolar output.
Whether such a scheme has any effect on resulting spark length remains
to be seen.
