TVSs for protection in spark gap coils

Hello all,

Would it be feasible to use silicon TVSs across the primary of my pole pig 
to protect my control circuitry (and my hand on the switch) in the event of 
some sort of HV spike? I was contemplating using 10x 5000w 40v AC TVSs in 
series between active and ground, and neutral and ground. Input voltage is 
240v AC. What do you guys think?
