Garry. R : anything that providers an ion path between a cloud and earth
will cause lightning to strike. A wet string ,silver chloride dust, short
wave UV , Rocket exhaust, smoke and on rare occasions artillery projectile
smoke.

Hi Gary,

The device used was a field strength meter (Kvolts per meter).  I can't
remember the threshold they used for firing the rocket, but you get the
idea.
