I think you will find most of the motor rewinding firms very helpful, I have
here in NZ.
Drop in with a pic of the coil or one off the net, bring a spool and scales
and I'll bet these boys will sell Cu wire of the gauge you need by the kg.
They are also good for that paint on motor and winding varnish too. You will
need to be prepared to spend some time running the wire off their big spools
to your own.
Another good source of Cu wire can be the car mechanics specialising in
alternator repairs, I've found that these places have big spools out the
back they never used and will sell them near Cu scrap cost per kg rather
than let them rot there for another 10 yrs
If you have any xfrmr mfrs in Sydney my expectation they would be ok too and
would likely have laminations to make ballasts too.
You would be surprised how just letting the people at work and broader
family will yield MWO's too
