secondary coilform painting

I noticed on the GeekGroup site they painted the ends of a secondary coil 
form with appliance paint.
Can any one tell me what kinds of paint could be used to do this?
And I noticed that the coil form was only painted on the ends.  I know the 
rest of the coil is not showing after it is wound I might want to paint the 
whole coil form any way.
Would it be safe to use a paint for the whole coil form?
