RE: Classroom Projects with a TC?

safety first
YES you do need to discharge your caps before going near them!
you may have plenty of luck for a good long time with them and not have a
problem touching them right after use. That’s because the caps are
discharging through the NST after you turn it off. But one day the NST gets
damaged or some other thing has gone wrong with your TC and pow you get
electrocuted. A 10m ohm resister is used to bleed the charge off the caps
in an MMC setup. If its a challenge to make this work for you, it is
possible to make the cap safe by connecting the two sides. do this with
caution. I would use a resister. Once its in place you don't have to get
close to a dangerous thing.
demonstrations-
spinner: a wire or something that can freely spin on top of the TC the
sparks come off the ends of the wire and make it spin.
The light bulb trick: the florescent light may be made to light up when
held in the hand. hold near the tc but not TOO near. DO NOT let the TC
strike it.
plasma globe: place a large clear bulb on the top of the tc. NOT safe to touch!
cd zap: zap a cd…
fishing line is a good way to hang stuff for zapping.
Good luck read you later
