It's true that when I installed a 6" x 24" spun toroid onto my
TT-42 TC it then gave a 44" sparks. Normally it gives 42" sparks
using the 4" x 13" spun toroid. This NST happens to be an old
fashioned "robust" 12/30 NST. However my old research coil, which
had more secondary turns, gave 42" sparks using a typical 12/30 NST.
The TT-42 coil was designed to be compact and portable so it's
not quite as efficient. I still have to try a 5" x 16" toroid on the
TT-42 TC. I suppose I'll get 43" sparks or so. Oh, BTW a 12/30
NST can provide more than 360 watts when it's powered by a
140 V variac as I do. The robust NST draws about 750 watts or so.
A typical 12/30 NST will draw about 610 watts when powered from
a 140V variac *and* when a resonant or LTR value cap is used.
Some other info about my TT-42 coil may be at my website at:

Click on the links there as needed, etc.
A similar coil based on my design, and actually built a lot nicer,
is John Morawa's coil which can be seen at his website at:
There's a link from my website to John Morawa's site, but the
link doesn't work because I didn't update it yet, so you need
the use the link above to go to his site.
Well I guess that's pretty much what's going on.
