RE: Ungrounded Secondary

Hi,
Seen several references, but can't recall where.
Frequently referred to as a 'Bipolar' Tesla Coil, with the secondary
mounted horizontally & the primary generally a helix around the centre
of it. Then you can put toroids, spheres, whatever on each end of the
secondary.
Try a Google, or Pupman archive search for "bipolar tesla coil" and
you'll find things like this funny double conical one :-
http://www.tesla-coil-builder-dot-com/double_cone_bipolar_tesla_coil.htm
or this little one:-

htm
Probably you'll find bigger ones if you look harder than I did.
Cheers,
Phil Chalk.

Hi -
I would like to wire the secondary
with toroids on each end,
rather than a single toroid on top
and the other side grounded.
My goal is not for sparks or arcs,
but rather to use the output
for other purposes, so I will
be running a bit different tham
standard 'breakout' design.
I haven't seen this done,
but I assume someone else has
already done this somewhere,
I simply can't find any references.
Anyone here know where to find
documents referring to a
'floated ground secondary'?
thanks,
