For those who've never seen a coil: I've always said
it's an antenna for contacting aliens. Then they ask
to see it work, but I tell them they need to wear a
special 'hat' made out of tinfoil so that the radio
waves don't knock them out.

For those who have: I tell them it keeps the cats
off the bed while I'm at work.
