It really helps to machine acrylic with some kerosene as a lubricant/coolant,
I've drilled and tapped some 1-inch deep 1/4-20 holes that way no problem.

As I don't have a special table saw blade for cutting acrylic, I have them
cut-to-size where I buy it, or for really small pieces if I saw it myself I
make it slightly oversize and file it to final size for a perfect edge.
