I imagine you could achieve high frequencies using a single mosfet in a 
flyback-type configuration, driving a parallel-tuned primary. I've seen 
radio transmitters up to 10s of MHz built with an IRFxxx mosfet in this 
way. I think it's called Class DE or something similar.
