Hi Ken,

I think you are right in suggesting the use of staccato to increase spark 
length rather than going for a continuous but shorter spark length.  Im 
currently looking for 833Cs to swap into my setup and maybe attempt for up 
to 28" of spark from the single 833C which should be well within its limits 
seeing as ive gotten about 25" from the 833A.

 From my experience, I'd advise against doing much with s.s. coils:

While the solid state stuff is rough like you mention, i must not get 
discouraged, but instead find better ways of doing things. Technology is 
getting better and better, and so are the new IGBTs ;-).

Do you mean charged from 120VAC?  That would take a lot of capacitors, but 
would be quite amazing to see work!
