the VTTC will only draw as much current as the circuit needs. It depends
on the impedance of the tank, and other things (like grid feedback, tuning,
etc). Using a higher current transformer will likely mean a cooler running
transformer, a heavier setup, and probably the same sparks. The tubes will
not run any hotter unless either 1) your smaller supply didnt give full
current or 2) the larger supply is higher voltage.
This is why John mentions that you need to do lots of tweaking to get
long sparks and acceptable tube heating. A better tuned (tweaked) setup
will draw less power and have less tube redness than that of a poorly setup
system. Tube redness is not solely dependent on the power supply. Also,
staccato is not nearly all there is to tweaking. After you build the coil,
you will need to adjust the feedback system and basically everything
else(to some degree)!
Hopefully ive understood what you meant by your statement and givin you
something to think about.
