Hi Sue,

The shadow of the streamer is caused by the refraction of the heated air in
the streamer.  You might be able to see this with a high intensity
flashlight and a match.  I found out that trick with a 8mm projector and a
match.  It's the same effect as heat ripples on a hot day.
