I'd be very surprised if a PDT has a lower source Z than MOT's but they
certainly have the voltage.
I'm speculating but I'd guess that a PDT driven coil would also work well
with a large Cp for the same reasons as MOT coils.
To get the power thru put with the 4 MOT pack a Cp a little larger than
usual will enable this. I have the feeling that MOT stack performance
improves with Cp in the 180nF region because of a resonant voltage rise as
the source impedance of the MOT's of 6Hy per MOT suggests to me that mains
resonance will occur with a stack around this value.
MOT's can source brief charging pulses a lot bigger than the scondary RMS
current rating and I think tihs is one reason why they can charge big values
of Cp
