RE: MOT Shunts : Remove or not remove? and other MOT stuff (fwd)

Sounds like removing the shunts is the way to go, especially if it results
in less heat and higher voltages.

if you pull the shunts on your MOT's, you turn your MOT psu into a "pole
mounted transformer" of sorts.
ie. draw EVERY last amp out of the sockets in your house to black out
without ballast.
The voltage will rise slightly too (an extra 100-150VAC on some models). I
would use an arc welder/ adjustable ballast or HUGE variac or "what have
you" to ballast the whole series of transformers.
....I have done some work in this area for a friend of mine. The supply my
friend uses is a 6 pack with no shunts/no filiment windings. The arc weldier
is usually on 3/4 power, or 9-10kW....output in volts is well above 14.4 kV
(more likely 15 kV on short).
...with shunts in, the transformers will get warmer, quicker. But both
supplies work extremely well...with shunts in or out.
