Again more years ago than I like to remember, I used to spacewind coils
with a single loop of spacing wire/cord, suspended between the last
completed turn and the feed turn with a small weight adjusted for good
tension. As I remember it worked very well but required a bit of
tension/brake on the coil form and the feed coil.
