Dave, I feel your pain brother, but now is the time to gather all of your
strength and examine the body of your beloved Ariel. 1.4 ohms is about
normal resistance of what we call the "primary".
As for what we call the "secondary" 1 K ohms is also normal.
Do you have any test equipment available? If not one could repair
"Jennifer", and hook her up to the HV bushings with a 500 w light bulb in
series, and measure what comes out of the LV lugs.
IF what you measure is ok, remove the light bulb from the circuit, connect a
load to it and see what she does.
I find it hard to believe that the rather "wimpy" (current wise) secondary
output damaged Her.
When I found my beloved "Gertie" she had a 4 inch hole in her head, and was
full of carbonized oil and water. I merely dried her core, cleaned her tank,
and filled her back up. Working great like this for over a year now. She is
a 15KVA/13800 sweetheart)
I've EXPLODED, FRIED, and BURNED TO THE GROUND, just about everything else
in my adventures, EXCEPT Gertie.
Don't give up hope
SM
While we're on this subject, The persons who take offense to the term "Pole
Pig" must have NEVER
had to climb and work on a pole with 3 100KVA PIGS hanging on it.

Brothers,

I admit it: I thought I was better than those peasants who insist on using
such a trifles as a strike rail. I thought I was well protected. Tonight I
spent considerable time rearranging the lab for greater spark length. I paid
much attention to safety and grounds and all manner of coiling imperatives.

I wasn't worried about a strike rail because I had my safety gap well in
hand, and I thought piggies were indestructible; but this is not the
case--for tonight I killed my Ariel.
