Well, you are free to build any aspect ratio you wish, howver,

a 4.5: 1 will provide the best results.  1,500 turns is a nice optimum for
design work.

A 3:1 with a large coil will invite more strikes to the strike rail,
primary, etc, and usually stress the coil more, shorter coil with long
discharges equals more stress.

A taller coil and you may not get the best shock-excited coupling from the
primary, ie, too low coeff. coupling factor.
