One of the biggest MMCs ever?? - Questions

Hello all,

My shipment of 145 Cornell Dubilier Caps arrived from Richardson
Electronics today. These are 2000VDC, 0.15uF caps, identical to the
Geek Group caps. I intend to use twelve strings, with twelve caps per
string, for 0.15uF at 24kVDC. This will be used with my 11.5kV 10kW
pole pig system, with a 400/200/100 BPS sync gap (variable). This MMC
will be huge, with 144 caps in total - second only to Robin Copini's
(as far as I know). Due to the sheer number of caps, I want to
package them as efficiently as possible to conserve space. I was
wondering if anyone has had any problems with mounting them side by
side (as opposed to end to end). I am considering mounting them side
by side with a 5mm gap between. This will let me fit 4 strings of 12
on a single poly cutting board. Three boards will be placed in
parallel for 0.15uF. Can anyone see any problem with this
configuration? I figure with 2kV across each cap, and a 5mm gap
between each, I should have no problems with arc overs. What do you
think? In addition, is this beast over engineered enough to be
reliable, or should I go for 13 caps per string?

Cheers,

Greg Peters.
